SEAMLESS DATA ENCODING THROUGH WHIMSICAL ILLUSTRATION

PROJECT OVERVIEW

THIS STICKER EXPERIMENT UTILIZES A SIMPLE FISH BOWL SCENE TO CAMOUFLAGE SCANNABLE, ENCODED GRAPHICS WITHIN ILLUSTRATIVE ELEMENTS. BUBBLES, FISH, AND SPOT VISION'S VINE PATTERN SERVE AS A DECORATIVE SEAWOOD WHILE HOLDING DIGITAL VALUE.

DESIGN STRATEGY

INTEGRATION OF ELEMENTS

SAND, FISH, AND BUBBLES WERE HAND-PLACED TO CREATE A WHIMSICAL, INVITING SCENE THAT STILL FUNCTIONED AS A SCANNABLE INTERFACE. THE SEAWEED USES A STYLIZED VERSION OF OUR SPOT VISION VINES PATTERN.

SCAN-ABILITY TESTING

ENCODING WAS EMBEDDED STRATEGICALLY TO BALANCE READABILITY AND AESTHETICS. TESTING INCLUDED DISTORTION TOLERANCE, SCALE ADAPTATION, AND MATERIAL VARIANTS FOR PRINTING.

TECH & DESIGN CHALLENGES

THIS WAS NOT A SIMPLE DROP-IN ASSET PROJECT. EACH LAYER—FROM THE SAND TO THE FISH—REQUIRED CAREFUL MASKING, COLOR CORRECTION, AND COMPOSITION PLANNING TO ENSURE THAT NOTHING LOOKED OUT OF PLACE OR BROKE THE ILLUSION OF A FUNCTIONAL, WHIMSICAL ENVIRONMENT.

INTEGRATING THE SPOT VISION VINE PATTERN AS SEAWEED TOOK EXTRA TIME. I HAD TO WARP, MASK, AND BLEND EACH PIECE SO THAT IT FELT ORGANIC WHILE STILL REMAINING SCANNABLE. ALIGNING THESE ELEMENTS WITHOUT LOSING THE ENCODED VALUE WAS A REAL BALANCING ACT.

I ALSO DID MULTIPLE TEST PRINTS TO VALIDATE SCANNABILITY UNDER DIFFERENT SIZES AND LIGHTING CONDITIONS—THE KIND OF TECHNICAL DETAIL THAT SEPARATES A COOL VISUAL FROM A VIABLE, FUNCTIONAL PIECE OF TECH ART.
